Pittsburgh's new Ace Hotel invited VIA to break in the space with a big ole New Years Eve party.
Inspired by Pantone's 2016 (two!) colors of the year, minimalist masters Dan Flavin & James Turrell and, of course, Drake, I decided to highlight the architectural beauty of Ace's ballroom while nodding to the health & wellness vibes of the venue's former life as a mid-20th century YMCA. Vertically suspended, color-changing florescent tubes + projection mapped gradients + minimalist light sculpture pulsed a rejuvenating light therapy throughout the night.
Calling on some of VIA's favorite musicians and DJs from across the city, the lineup repped a wide spectrum of Pittsburgh scenes and sounds - from new club kids to OG party makers - blending disco, hip-hop, house, club bangers, experimental sounds and drag. VitaminNYE was simply about loving where we come from and where we are going. Happy 2016.
