For our 5th anniversary we went big, not only with our largest venue to date, but also launching our first VIA Conference, and welcoming the VIA Chicago branch to the family.VIA Chicago launched as part of the festival, holding simultaneous events, sealing a midwest takeover.
With the support of the Office of the Mayor Bill Peduto and Davis Companies, we were allowed to transform the historic Union Trust building's lower level / vault into a fully-functioning night club with 2 stages and surround visuals, while vacant department stores and the grand rotunda were home for augmented reality exhibitions, immersive installations, indie games, and video screenings.
Collaborating with Kevin Ramser and the CMU Video & Media Design program again on stage/media design, this year's visual super team featured the video label / collective Undervolt & Co. Paolo Pedercini, Timothy Sherman, and Caitlin Boyle continued as our VIA Games team, curating multi-player titles only available on the festival circuit. The VIA Conference was made possible with the support of Ableton and many partners at Carnegie Mellon University. Hosted the Frank-Raytche STUDIO for Creative Inquiry, the program dovetailed with CMU's Demosplash Conference to provide 2 days dedicated to electronic music composition.
